Beautiful Losers The Film

Produced by Sidetrack Films, Beautiful Losers is an intimate and moving assessment of underappreciated yet wildly influential outcasts such as Shepard Fairey, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, Stephen Powers, Geoff McFetridge, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton. Informed by their individual experiences and the generation’s “Do It Yourself” culture, these artists left an indelible mark on the worlds of fashion, music, literature, film and ironically, sports. The story of Beautiful Losers is a retrospective celebration of their contribution to artistic independence.
The film has screened at SXSW which i didn’t go, and it’s now is on tour across US. From the people from film’s YouTube Channel, people can expect that this film will be out in theaters across America this summer and out on dvd by the end of the year.
Oh yeah, if i don’t find the chance to go to the states, i’ll be happy to wait for the DVD. You can learn more on the film at the official website and below is the trailer.

Worldometers - The Real Time World Statistics
I was stumbling around and found this interesting site, Worldometer, which is a site dedicated to world statistics that updated in real time. Worldometer is managed by an international team of developers, researchers, and volunteers with the goal of making world statistics available in a thought-provoking and time relevant format to a wide audience around the world.
From their FAQ page, here’s how they keep the numbers real time:
Numbers displayed on the web page are obtained automatically from Worldometers’ algorithm. The algorithm itself, and the numbers included in the algorithm, are not updated in real time simply because the sources from which the data is derived are not able to provide real time updates, but only periodical ones. Worldometers’ team updates the algorithm, and the numbers and formulas herein included, on an ongoing basis as new data becomes available.
The main website is served in English but also has already translated to several other language. They are currently looking for Korean and Finnish speaking translator as their mission is to serve to wider audience.

The same group of people also presenting the other project; Stop The Hunger, which aim to provide a real time statistics on world hunger.

This is a really cool project.
Upgrading to Wordpress 2.5.1
I have upgraded this blog to new released Wordpress 2.5.1. From the development blog, i found that the team at Wordpress also include Media Uploader fixes which in the past i found error several times.
But at top of that, this is an urgent security release, so you will need to upgrade yours.
PluggedIn is Useless
I went to the site several days ago but never got the chance to try it out until earlier today. Given the buzz lately i visited the site with high expectation.
I am sorry for the title, but PluggedIn.com was cool until i found this:
The content is not licensed for distribution outside the US. We are working closely with our partners to extend our licenses internationally. Stay Tuned.

Tetris is now a Wrestling Game
Tetris is the original time waster. It competes head to head with Solitaire in my PDA. These kind of games are also useful while wait my Firefox loads. However, i never thought this simple game could mixed nicely with Arm Wrestling (who would? I bet not even the creator!).
Anyhow, Tresling is a machine that controlled a Tetris game within arm wrestling.
From the author’s page:
They said it couldn’t be done. Mixing Tetris and arm wrestling… not possible. But just like Stallone in “Over the Top,” the impossible happened, dreams came true, tears were shed. I give you Tresling: Not just a two-player version of best game on earth, not just a fist-pumping, back ally arm wrestling match to end all matches… but a mash-up so heroic Zeus himself could not imagine it.
Here’s how it works. Old school cool time waster + Old school cool competitive sport = FUN!!
Zemanta suggests that Engadget and Gizmodo has covered this 4 days ago. But i got this from HackedGadgets.
It’s Pope not Hope, He’s Pope with Hope
In honor of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to New York City, Michael Ian Weinfeld has created POPE, an imitation of Shepard Fairey’s Obama Hope poster (or Shepard’s involvement in Hope Artists? or both?) Or whatever. I like it so much.

Got this via Laughing Squid. You can get the poster at Animal New York.
Given my wife known about this, and she said, “If you go somewhere else that you can find ‘these things’, i’ll be your insulting accountant!” Oh i know she will :-D.
1984 Book Cover Redesign
I was simply surprised to see George Orwell’s 1984 released and translated into Indonesian but i had no doubt to buy and read it. I guess it was released in mid 2003 or so here in Indo. The cover is bad compare to original English version and even worse compare to the redesign done by artist Shepard Fairey a.k.a. Obey.
Below is the cover in Indonesian released so you can see.

However, this latest move from Penguin Books is pretty clever, as if kids see the book designed by an artist who design Obey Clothing, will probably bring them more into reading, eventhough, i don’t think kids under 18 should read 1984 anyways. The other Orwell’s book which get redesigned is Animal Farm. But i haven’t read it so i don’t have anything to say. Below is the redesign cover, pretty cool.

As a side note on this. I once recommend and bought another copy of the novel as a gift to my friend that is in the middle of lyric writing session then a social professor mention him as a cool underground musician dude who read 1984 and gets all the credit at a national paper (lol but it’s ok!). Somehow, i have put an online review in my other music blog here (in Indonesian Language) which was originally released as an underground zine published for my underground music company in mid 2003.
Get this via Juxtapoz, more information at The Penguin Blog.
Cool Dude Chased by Girls, Who’s The Coolest?
There are many cool dude with girls scene but these ‘cool dude chased by girls’ scene is my favorite. There’s no better way (it’s in rockstar’s skill package i suppose) to show off rockstar status to public broadcasts, i mean hoping that you can show off how you can shoot a long drug line is stupid if it’s not get banned. However, i found 3 most interesting scenes on below videos and i would like to give you my personal favors.
I think the loser between the three is Incubus. I mean, there are 5 of them and they’re all running away from these chicks. They even jump off a bridge down to river to get over it. Dude, wtf were in your mind?
The second ‘winner’ is surely Rob Dyrdek. I mean, he runs away but at least he manage to take all girls by himself. And, he rides skateboard. So he’s cool but still can’t match my winner.
Yes, my winner is Fred Durst. Simply because he’s in control. He control himself and the girls, he took them one by one, and in the end they get FD to the stage. What a better way to go to a show but with dozens of girls at your back?
Jeffry A. Timmons Passed Away
Prof. Jeffry A. Timmons was a pioneer in Entrepreneurship Education. I’m sending out my deep condolences as he died unexpectedly on April 8, 2008, at his winter home in South Carolina at the age of 66.
From his page in Babson College:
Known internationally for his research, innovative curriculum development, and teaching in entrepreneurship, new ventures, entrepreneurial finance and venture capital, Jeff Timmons held simultaneous professorships at Babson and Harvard Business School. He returned to Babson full time, and in 1995 was named the first Franklin W. Olin Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship. Timmons’ friends and supporters endowed the Jeffry A. Timmons Professorship in the mid-1990s in recognition of his contributions to Babson College and to the field of entrepreneurship. His doctoral dissertation, “Entrepreneurial and Leadership Development in an Inner City Ghetto and a Rural Depressed Area (Harvard, 1971)” was the first use of the word “entrepreneurial” in a dissertation title.
I was an Entrepreneurship graduate student back in 2004, and Professor Timmons’ book New Venture Creation was my Holy Bible. When i wrote my thesis for the degree, with my fellow entrepreneurship students, our professor Yuyun Wirasasmita asked us to use Timmon’s model for Assessing new venture opportunity, as the parameter for recognizing initial entrepreneurial success. Despite it brought debate among professors from other department, i think we had successfully pioneered the new thesis model for entrepreneurship graduate study in Indonesia.
Thank you Prof. Timmons.
Note: i can’t get anything from Google Search regarding the latest news of Prof. Timmons. I mean, noone is writing about this?
